Thank you for this, Andy. I am working at (trying to rest in) waiting in silence for God alone. And this psalm is a timely encouragement and vehicle for doing such.
Good question. I have been meaning to write a post on the relation between these renditions and true "translations" but I just haven't gotten around to it. The best analogy I have come up with is that if the strict translation of the Hebrew is a path through the woods, my renditions wander back and forth across the path but still follow it. I use stepbible.com to see the psalms in Hebrew. And yes, I often scratch wonder at how the translators got from the Hebrew to the English. Translators will tell you it is both an art and I science, involving a lot of knowledge and intuition.

Out of curiosity, how did you come by your Hebrew? Do you ever look at translations and scratch your head?

"vast kindness" is my favorite phrase in this one. Well done.
