How to Read the Story of Jesus in Every Part of the Bible

Jesus is everywhere in the Bible. Biblical theology can help you find him.

In many of the theological notes that accompany these Psalm translations and poems, I point out the connections between the Psalms and other parts of scripture. That is because the authors of the Bible intended it to be read self-referentially (and their writings show that they read it that way themselves).

The Bible is full of allusions and patterns in which later books develop themes and language from earlier books and gather them together into the ongoing revelation of God. From Genesis to Revelation, God uses these threads (themes, narratives, characters, and symbols) to weave a single story—and the Psalms are no exception.

This lecture introduces ‘biblical theology,’ a way of reading the Bible that seeks to trace each thread as it develops throughout scripture to better understand God's revelation of himself in the Bible.

Support the Project

Any work of sufficient length is only sustained contact with by those who benefit from it.

An idea can be a fragile thing and 150 poems and translations is a big idea. I meant this project to be ambitious though and, if it is ever complete, it will be the work of years.

I know the only way I’m ever going to finish this project is if I know people read, value, and support it. Whether you subscribe or not, if you like a poem or find a rendition of a Psalm helpful, drop me a line or leave a comment and let me know.
